Ugiletska poplar

Uhiletska Poplar

Have you ever wondered why the symbol of the New Year celebration is a fir tree and not any other tree?

The Traveler's Passport did wonder — and was surprised. After all, since ancient times, Ukrainians have considered the oak and the poplar as trees of strength and wisdom. Experienced travelers know that both trees are special for the Rivne region. Here we have the Patriarch Oak, which is over 1300 years old, and the Uhiletska Poplar, which is listed in the register of the oldest trees in Ukraine!!!

The poplar was planted by local residents between 1587-1607, almost immediately after the founding of the village (the first written mention of Uhiltzi village in Hoshcha district dates back to 1577). Today, the trunk diameter of this ancient tree is 2.8 meters.

Our ancestors believed in the power of trees, especially the ancient ones.

So why not start a new New Year tradition — instead of cutting down fir trees and setting them up at home — visiting these age-old mighty giants? How do you like this idea?

No one has celebrated the New Year like that yet :))
